Altmar is a launching area for the driftboats and is an excellent area in the Fall. It marks the beginning of the river for the spincasters. The area above the Altmar Bridge starts the flyfishing only, catch and release section.

RESTRICTIONS FOR FISHING IN THIS AREA:
#1. Traditional fly rod, reel and line only.
#2. Single artificial flies having one hook point with a 1/2 inch maximum gap.
#3 Weighted artificial flies permitted.
#4 Weighted leader length including tippet is 15 feet.
#5 Maximum distance between fly and additional weight is 4 feet.
#6 ALL FISH MUST BE IMMEDIATELY RELEASED WITHOUT INJURY.
